It may not be the sexiest of topics, but it is one we should talk about more regularly, without fear of judgement. Bloating can feel like a real setback, especially if we have made progress in the path we are on, but whether we like it or not, bloating is normal, and bloating is common, especially in women.
I think we can all agree that bloating is uncomfortable physically, but it can also have an affect mentally as well – perhaps leading us to believe that we haven’t made as much progress as we thought, or that we are doing something wrong. Keep a food diary and note down when you start to feel bloated, and the time of day this happened. Little by little, you will start to see patterns in the food you have eaten, that could be contributing to your bloating. There are also a few foods that are said to cause bloating – beans, onions, cabbage, cauliflower – so try cutting these out, along with a diary to spot the trends!
Ginger has a wonderful way of soothing your stomach, because it can help to stimulate your digestive system – adding this into your diet where possible, should moderately help ease any uncomfortable bloating you feel after meals.
After dinner, instead of reaching for the ice cream, or a chocolate bar that we all crave so dearly – try having a peppermint tea. Peppermint can help with inflammation and is also said to aid in relaxing the digestive tract, while you sleep.
